2010 was a big year for Scifen, one that marked the rebirth of one of the original names in hip-hop fashion.

Barmak Badaei, a former b-boy, founded Scifen in 1999 while he was still in college.  The label was one of the early hip-hop inspired clothing brands and helped propel the style into the mainstream.  But in 2008, Scifen became entangled in a lawsuit that forced a two-year hiatus and threatened the future of the label.

Last year, Badaei finally emerged from the mess and relaunched the label, renamed The Scifen Company.  Like Badaei, The Scifen Company has grown up.  Its style is a bit more refined and evolved, but still carries a gritty edge.  The label got off to a great start with its inaugural collection last fall, and with this Spring’s offerings, it has only gotten better.

Our favorite from the Spring collection is the Pierce Button Crew Jacket.  The lightweight jacket is understated and cool, with just just the right touch of preppy influence mixed in.  Here’s a closer look.
